Some News from Microsoft

Here we gather some of the latest news from Microsoft Dynamics. This time, a new feature for Dynamics 365 Finance: Subscription billing and two updates for Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.

News from Microsoft: New feature in Dynamics 365 Finance: Subscription billing

Subscription billing is a new feature in Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 Finance, designed to meet an increasingly subscription-oriented economy with higher demands for automation. Therefore, it is a powerful solution that enables the management of revenue and recurring billing through billing schedules. The feature makes it easy to handle even complex pricing and billing models as well as revenue allocation. The system easily integrates with existing subsystems and handles large volumes of transactions. Since the user creates each billing schedule per customer and manages it directly at the line level, the business gains great flexibility.

The new product types usage and milestone allow billing based on actual consumption or achieved milestones, for example..:

  • Service agreements based on the degree of completion, with the addition of ongoing support and one-time hardware purchases.
  • Consumption of service, where increased usage leads to a new price level, but also with the possibility of free quantities and max/minimum charging.
  • Memberships, with the addition of one-time or recurring product purchases.
  • Equipment rental, with the possibility of a certain amount of service hours.

The system also allocates revenue per line and allows the user to adjust them as needed. Billing can then be anything from daily to annually. Pre-set batch runs automate the entire process for both billing and revenue allocation.

Two Updates for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management

a. Automatic distribution of purchases

The new feature allows the user to define multiple suppliers for the same item and control how purchases are distributed among them. It is useful in cases where you want to keep multiple suppliers active to reduce vulnerability. The Planning Optimization function distributes planned purchase orders and ensures that the user maintains the determined distribution over time. It is also possible to set different quantities for minimum orders per supplier. You can use the same policy for several different items. The feature requires at least version 10.0.31 and is automatically activated in version 10.0.36.

b. Print labels via an external service

This feature allows direct communication with an external service (such as Bartender) to print labels. The advantage of this is that you do not need to use the Document Routing agent. Additionally, you can create the label layout in an external program. Therefore, you do not need to use ZPL (Zebra Programming Language) but can use more user-friendly layout programs.
The feature requires version 10.0.34 and the system activates it automatically.
