A sprawling landscape of integrations stood in the way of the upgrade to SAP S/4HANA that Bona urgently needed. The solution was to implement SAP Integration Suite—and at the same time gain access to a significantly larger toolbox, including the AI support in Business Technology Platform (BTP).

Bona is a Swedish, family-owned company that manufactures products for the installation, renovation, and maintenance of floors. The company is on an impressive growth journey, not least in the United States. Today they have just over 600 employees, five factories around the world, and a presence in more than 90 countries.

As part of the strategic plan and roadmap that Bona and Implema developed together, the implementation of SAP S/4HANA is included—but to do so, one of the real obstacles first had to be addressed: the sprawling integration landscape.

Over the past ten years, as Bona grew rapidly and moved fast, new systems and integrations were added along the way. Suddenly they found themselves with an integration landscape that, besides being difficult to maintain and expensive to operate, made upgrading to SAP S/4HANA significantly harder.

An important first step toward S/4HANA was therefore to implement SAP Integration Suite, a part of BTP, the Business Technology Platform.

Hear Ingemar Kristensson, Global IT Manager at Bona, talk about the work of implementing SAP Integration Suite, the benefits it has delivered, and the road ahead.

Benefits of SAP Integration Suite According to Bona:

  • cohesive and easy-to-overview integration landscape
  • a solution that enables the upgrade to S/4HANA
  • lower—and more predictable—TCO (total cost of ownership)
  • better documentation
  • the first steps toward BTP and, among other things, the AI support available there

“By switching our integration platform, we are consolidating as many integrations as possible into one basket, following a best-practice solution. In this way, we can make independent adjustments in the system or in the integrations, outside the core, which is kept ‘clean.’”
Ingemar Kristensson, Global IT Manager, Bona

In parallel, they have also begun building up their own internal capability.

“So far, we have had an IaaS solution via Implema, where we rented our infrastructure. We are now planning to instead use Implema’s service Implema Integration Management (IIM), which suits us as we grow and ultimately want to bring the infrastructure in-house, while still having access to best practices for processes and integration.”

With SAP Integration Suite in place, the next step begins: a long-awaited upgrade to S/4HANA.

“The upgrade to S/4HANA is something we are truly looking forward to and that will create tremendous opportunities in our digital transformation
Ingemar Kristensson, Global IT Manager, Bona”
