A tangled web of legacy integrations stood in the way of Bona’s much-needed upgrade to SAP S/4HANA. The solution? Implementing SAP Integration Suite—gaining access not only to a cleaner integration landscape, but also to a significantly broader toolkit, including AI capabilities, through the Business Technology Platform (BTP).
Bona, a Swedish family-owned company, produces products for the installation, renovation, and maintenance of flooring. The company is on an impressive growth journey, especially in the U.S. Today, Bona employs more than 600 people, operates five production facilities worldwide, and has a presence in over 90 countries.
As part of the strategic roadmap developed in collaboration with Implema, implementing SAP S/4HANA was a key milestone. But first, one major obstacle had to be addressed: a highly complex and fragmented integration landscape.
Over the past decade, Bona had rapidly expanded, adding systems and integrations along the way. This had resulted in a patchwork of solutions that were not only costly and difficult to maintain but also a significant barrier to upgrading their ERP system.
The critical first step toward S/4HANA was the implementation of SAP Integration Suite, a component of SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP).
Hear from Ingemar Kristensson, Global IT Manager at Bona, as he discusses the implementation of SAP Integration Suite, the benefits it has delivered, and what lies ahead.
Benefits of SAP Integration Suite, According to Bona:
- A cohesive and transparent integration landscape
- A solution that enables the move to S/4HANA
- Lower and more predictable total cost of ownership (TCO)
- Improved documentation and governance
- Foundation for future BTP capabilities, including AI
– Up until now, we’ve relied on an IaaS model provided by Implema, essentially renting our infrastructure. Now, we’re planning to transition to Implema Integration Management (IIM)—an ideal service for a growing company like ours. It allows us to gradually take ownership of our infrastructure while still benefiting from best practices in integration and process management.

At the same time, Bona has begun building internal capabilities to support its transformation.
– By switching to a new integration platform, we’re consolidating as many integrations as possible into a single, best-practice solution. This allows us to make independent adjustments to systems or integrations outside the core, keeping it clean
With SAP Integration Suite now in place, Bona is moving forward with its long-anticipated upgrade to S/4HANA.
– We’re truly excited about the upgrade to S/4HANA. It opens up incredible opportunities and will be a major driver of our digital transformation.
