SAP Business Data Cloud means, among other things, that SAP is opening up to share data from SAP platforms to third-party platforms in a more structured way. The partnership started with Databricks, expanded with Snowflake in the fall of 2025, and Microsoft Fabric is highlighted as the next step in 2026. For customers, this means easier data sharing, better opportunities to combine SAP data with other data, and to use AI and machine learning where it fits best.

SAP Business Data Cloud marks a clear shift in how SAP views data and analytics. Instead of everything happening within SAP’s own solutions, SAP is taking a step towards the ecosystem that many companies already use. Data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Microsoft Fabric are, for many, an established part of analysis and AI work. With SAP Business Data Cloud, it becomes easier to connect these investments with SAP data.
That is also why this change is having such a major impact. SAP Business Data Cloud is still about being able to efficiently and structurally build data models for analysis and planning with SAP’s tools. But it is also about being able to share data from SAP platforms to third-party platforms in a simple and open way without storing data in multiple locations.
In practice, it started with Databricks. In the fall of 2025, Snowflake came into the picture. And the next step is that Microsoft Fabric will be enabled in 2026. This provides a more coherent path forward for organizations that want to share semantic and high-quality SAP data to the platform they have chosen for advanced analysis, data engineering, or AI.
For those of you who already have Databricks or Snowflake, the value quickly becomes concrete. You can share SAP data there, combine it with data from other systems, and create a broader picture of the business. This can range from financial analysis and supply chain insights to more data-driven decisions in customer or product. In addition, it opens up the possibility of using machine learning and AI functions where they are often most mature.
An extra important point is the sources. SAP Business Data Cloud can retrieve data from SAP on-prem, SAP cloud, and even systems that are not SAP. This allows you to work with a broader overall picture of all available data, both in SAP’s analysis tools or by sharing them to, for example, Snowflake or Databricks.
