Tibnor, a subsidiary of SSAB<\/a>, supplies the industry in the Nordic and Baltic countries with steel, metals, and processing services. Sales offices, warehouses, and processing plants are located in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and the Baltics. With a thousand employees, Tibnor has a turnover of SEK 8.2 billion.<\/p>\n\n

Strategy to Digitalize and Automate the Supply Chain<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Urban Pettersson<\/strong> is Head of Business Development and Digital Transformation at Tibnor. He states that digitalization is high on Tibnor’s agenda. The goal is to reach a 50 percent automation rate in Sweden by the end of the year. The corresponding figure at the Nordic level is 44 percent. <\/p>\n\n

Integration is our Google Translate. First and foremost, we need to understand the customer’s needs from a digital perspective. Then we translate between systems, which in turn enables process automation. When sales, inventory, and purchasing are highly automated, it also speeds up flows with both customers and suppliers. At the same time, increased data quality leads to fewer errors in the supply chain. Finally, the fewer people who need to manipulate data, the better the whole system works. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

In total, Implema facilitates 230 active integrations<\/a> that transfer business-critical data around the clock between about fifty of Tibnor’s most strategic customers and suppliers.<\/p>\n\n

Implema also plays an important role in monitoring the environment, keeping track of trends and developments, and proposing new technologies and solutions.<\/p>\n\n

This industry is racing ahead, and that’s why we don’t stand a chance of keeping ourselves updated on our own. For that reason, it’s important for us to have a partner who can guide us in the technology, says Pettersson. At the same time, we need to focus on our core business and therefore can’t delve into integration and digitalization at the same pace. Ultimately, this means that an external partner, who also takes full responsibility for operation and monitoring, makes us less vulnerable\u2014and finally allows us to sleep well at night. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Automation Shifts Focus from Order Reception to Delivery Flows<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

About half of Tibnor’s order lines are now received digitally. This allows Tibnor’s salespeople to spend more time on sales instead of being order receivers. Business can be conducted around the clock with full transparency and faster feedback to customers and suppliers. <\/p>\n\n

By digitalizing the flow, we save between four and five minutes per order line, says Pettersson. Automation allows us to have more long-term partnerships with suppliers as well as customers. With established collaboration agreements and agreed prices on products and services, the deal is, so to speak, already done. The operational business can focus on call-offs and delivery flows, saving time and money for both Tibnor and our customers. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

A lot of administration and paperwork has disappeared. Forecasts come in digitally, which improves purchasing quality. In a fully automated flow, from order to delivery notification and invoice, Tibnor’s customers place orders in their own system. Orders also come in via Tibnor’s customer portal or, with the help of a punch-out solution, in the customers’ own business systems. <\/p>\n\n

When we have produced, the customer sees in their system that the products are on the way. Goods are scanned when picked with delivery notification and invoice in an automatic flow. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Standardized Process and an Agile Approach<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Pettersson estimates that eighty percent of an integration project involves business issues. A large part is master data, prices, materials, and various cross-references. The remaining 20 percent are technical issues. <\/p>\n\n

The process of starting a new integration project is simple and standardized today. In the first steps, a customer or supplier fills out a form with standard questions on Tibnor’s website. <\/p>\n\n

There are ready-made templates and concepts, and we at Tibnor can do a good preliminary work before the order for the next integration project is handed over to Implema.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

In the next step, the business value is evaluated. When Tibnor decides to proceed, a ticket is sent to Implema, which appoints a project manager and starts the project. Implema, together with Tibnor and Tibnor’s business partner, develops and tests the integration where the solution is iterated agilely to implementation and go-live. <\/p>\n\n

An agile approach is very important, I think. That’s how you come up with the best solutions, says Pettersson. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

To further streamline the introduction of new integrations, reduce project times, and achieve faster onboarding of new partners, Tibnor and Implema work proactively to develop the collaboration.<\/p>\n\n
